My new do!

I finally got my haircut on friday.  I wanted it like my brothers but Mommy said no, so we compromised! I love it and its way faster to brush!

Back in the saddle again!

This is Zoey, sweet little girl. We have been out three times now and I am thoroughly enjoying myself and I think she is too! This weekend we went out twice with Nicole and Buckskin, so great to be back in the

 saddle again! I should sing that as I go next time!

 

Fishing Trip

Last weekend we met Jay and Bev out at Crooked Lake for breakfast, they camped out but we figured with the chicks and the class pet spending the weekend, we better not spend the whole weekend away.

It was a beautiful day and the lake was AMAZING! and so was the scenery. After a breakfast of Pancakes Bacon, Ham and Eggs the boys wasted no time getting out in the boat for some fishing. Bev and I drank tea, and relaxed in the sunshine - oh was that nice!

Not only were there fish to catch but frogs too!

Shayleigh was very interested in the fish cleaning that Sierra was doing!

After lunch the clouds started to come in the thunder was rumbling in the distance so we decided to pack up and go sight seeing further East. The back country was so beautiful and we even chased a bear (by accident ) down the road a little way. 

We went as far as a lookout over Quesnel Lake - oh words can't describe how pretty it was up there even in the rain.  Part of the reason we went out that far, was for Ed to see the Cedars that Jay always talks about, parts were like Cathedral Grove, and the undergrowth was like that you would see in a rainforest.

After checking out the map we went on a little farther to Wartig Lake and the boys unloaded the boat and were off again - this time in the rain.

Bev and I and the girls made a tarp tent and waited for them to come back.

After Wartig it was getting late so we decided to head for home (140 km away) on the way Jay said lets stop one more time at Bosk and see how the fishing is there. This was  agreat idea as Ed was getting tired and needed a break from driving.  As we drove in the rain and wind started but that didn't stop us from building a fire, cooking Eggs and fish for dinner and boiling water for tea. The boat never did get unloaded as the wind high, but in all we got 5 fish and had a great day!  

Tree planting

June 5 – We went to school on a Saturday, shows how much the boys love school – just kidding! We participated in planting a new grove of young trees in the school yard with schoolmates and community members. Our school received a grant from the Toyota Evergreen Fund for 30 new trees to replace the trees that had to be taken out because of the pinebeetle. Each child drew a number that corresponded to a tree and a community member assisted the kids in digging holes and carrying soil and water. Dylan and Tayler and I planted a Mountain Ash and Russell and Pete planted a White Spruce. In a couple of years it will be a beautiful place for the kids to play.

Shopping Trip

The afternoon of June 5 we headed up to Prince George to visit Mike, Sue and the girls and to pick out a freezer and stock up the pantry and meat supply.

We arrived about 4pm and were barely there 15minutes and Sue herded us out the door to start our shopping. She said I know you are here on a mission so lets’ go! We hit Costco and found the freezer right away and at a great price! I bought a 20kg bag of flour and a bunch of other BIG things and lots of meat to put in our new freezer. After Costco we went back for dinner and a visit. While Sue and Mike prepped dinner I chopped and packaged meat, 38 meals – yahoo - look at me go! After dinner Sue and I did a late night shopping trip to Superstore, stocking up on anything I could think of!

Sunday we participated in the Healthy Kids Day in PG. The YMCA put on a day of fun activities for kids, but first Dylan, Sue, Annika and Loey ran 3 laps around the track at the stadium to complete an equivalent of 40 km marathon. We tried al sorts of stuff from art to wheelchair basketball to football to bouncy castles and face painting. It was a beautiful day and the kids had so much fun! During this time Mike and Ed made a trip to Princess Auto for odds and ends and then out for lunch.

We ended our day with a big Ice cream cone and headed back to rearrange the trailer and head back home, with our stores.

Around La Lac Hache we drove into some black clouds pouring rain and blowing wind with a rainbow flowing out of the clouds.

The chickens are here, the chickens are here!

Yesterday morning Tay and I went to town to pick up our 25 little Red Sussex chicks. It was a really wet and windy morning and the poor little things were is a cardboard box with a few holes in it. They talked all the way home in the car - peeping our ears off.  When we arrived home we set them in their new home (a drawer from the dump) with a heat lamp and food and water, they ran around like crazy for a few minutes then calmed down and drank, ate and stretched their little legs.
So far so good, we wtill have all of them, I wasn't sure how they would do over night, but they all pulled through and were peeping and running around this morning.  The kids are so excited, they check on them before and after school and before they go to bed. The dog is not sure what to think and the cat sees dinner, but nw they are in a locked room so she can't get at them - thank goodness.

They are so cute right now but as Ed says they will get ugly fast when they molt and start growing up. They are peeping away enjoying the feed and water and the ability to walk around and not being cooped up in a little shipping box.

Horses, Horses, Horses!!!

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited I got to ride agin today for the first time in about 5 years. I have a friend that has 7 horses, so I have been out a few times just to brush them and get used to the good and bad habits.  I forgot how relaxing it is to brush a horse.

We were at Strong Start today and Nicole invited me out to ride her little Arab - Zoey - around her front field so we could get used to each other. It was so much fun.  Unfortunately I had to cut it short because I had to pick up the kids from school, but I did get to spend about 45 minutes on her.

I just can't wait to go again! Its started all over again !

Garage sale day

I haven't been to a Garage sale in a really long time, and this  pst weekend I went to 6 with my friend Bev and her two girls.

We started at the Canim Lake Reserve and Tay found a little jewlery box full of hair stuff she was so excited.

There was a teepee at the band office and Tay had to go check it out!
We went on to about 3 more in that area and then headed to town, but not without getting a sightseeing tour from Bev, she has lived in this area for quite a few years.

In town Bridge Creek Estates was having a Barn/garage sale - Ed said don't go it will be easier that way. Well I couldn't resist and neither could Bev.  Neither of us found any treasures but we did find this 3 week old little filly, just behind the barn with her mom, isn't she sooooooooo cute!

This was my find of the day - four chairs to match my dining room table, and I found them can you believe it, and at a bargain price $5 each. They are super sturdy and look as if they came with my table - I was soo excited!

Sports Day June 1

School Sports Day!

I remember elementary school Sports Day at Happy Valley. We'd get bussed over to South Vancouver Island Rangers, and spend the day participating in all kinds of events.  This time I got to watch, what a great way to spend the day, cheering for my boys as they give their all in different events in hopes of that blue ribbon.  Below are a bunch of pictures I took throughout the day. The morning was taken up with the traditional sports day events - 100, 200 and 400m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and a few others. Then we had a lunch put on by the CPAC which was BBQ hambugers, chips and pasta salad. The afternoon was full of fun games, three-legged race, sack race, tug of war and an obsticale course, between down pours of rain. Some of the kids got SO wet but they carried on and had so much fun!

Three-legged race was hilarious to watch, Dylan and Mike had it mastered, but some of the kids could not get coordinated to pick up speed, they laughed all the way up and back!

I love this picture, Russ is teamed up with Shale, probably THE tallest kid in the school. At one point I heard Shale say to Russ, okay bud you're doing good, but near the end I am going to pick up and run! Too funny!

Anyone who knows Russell knows he hops everywhere, so the sack race was a cinch, he was up and back before some of the kids could get to the turn around point 

And of course the TUG-O-WAR.  First they split into their teams and each side won, then they had boys against girls, as you can see from the size of the boys, the girls had to really pour it on, so with a little help from Moms and teachers we whipped them. Then some of the Dads got involve, well they basically dragged all us girls across the field.  What a great day. In all Dylan received 7 ribbons 3 firsts, he was so proud. I felt bad for Russ as the younger kids didn't get ribbons and he was most upset, but said he had a fun day anyway.

My garden

Back in February I wrote a post about my future garden plot and took the picture below.

Since that post I have worked away at that spot in the yard, turning dirt and separating all the clumps of roots, dirt and chunks of wood buried in the ground. After all this hard work, and it was hard and tiring. Below are two pictures of my garden plot now, with seeds planted and hopefully growing. So far there is no sign of life except for the peas and leeks which I started indoors.  I am imagining this huge bountiful garden full of beautiful veggies, but in reality I just hope something comes up. I go over everyday to cheer them on -"come on,little plants you can do it" pathetic or what. Its been years since I planted a veggie garden, so hopefully my green thumb shines through!!
