Cleaning up trees

We have been clearing trees in the big field to make way for crops in the years to come. We started pulling the pines with the tractor, but realized its way faster to cut them with the brush cutter, and Dylan has a ball setting up "drags" behind the 4 wheeler and taking them to the "landing" otherwise known as the brush pile.  (Check out the logging lingo, I have watched way too many Mighty Machine videos) He told me the other night he was working up a sweat dragging trees. Ed asked me why I was doing the grunt work and Dylan was running the 4 wheeler, I said if it was the other way around he would not be helping, its great fun to ride the 4wheeler - especially on his own!

My kitchen make over with old curtains, is that not so cozy! And yes for those of you who don't know thehand pump at the sink works and thats the only running water int he house at the moment.

Drywall milestone. This is one of the walls in the living room, outside Russells room.
Now the boys have their own private rooms, first time in their lives. And they protect that privacy under all circumstances, right down to yelling "GET OUT OF MY ROOM! NOW!"

Spring stormtime

Yesterday we had a "severe thunderstorm watch on for the 100 Mile house area" from Environment Canada.  The kids and I listened to the thunder while we ate our dinner, as Ed was out late on a delivery. It only lasted about an hour and we only saw two lightning cracks, I was expecting MUCH worse so thank goodness it didn't last long.
Today has been very muggy and very cloudy, on the way back from town today the clouds out our way were dark gray and puffy, characteristic of thunder clouds. We'll see what happens in the next few hours.

New Visitors

For my birthday I stocked up on some birdy stuff. I bought this Hummingbird Feeder and a 40 lb bag of seed for the hungry guys.  This feeder has caused a bit of a stir though. The little guy on the left has claimed it as his own and won't let any other bird near it. He waits in a nearby tree, just to chase everyone away.  He went after Ed the other day and dive bombed him, because Ed got too close for the little guys comfort.  It has been quite entertaining and now I am thinking I should probably get another one for all the other Hummingbirds around.
We have started getting quite the variety of birds come to the feeders and fat I put out.  We are slowly trying to figure what kinds they are but its hard when they move sooooo fast! So far we have had Hairy Woodpeckers, Pileated Woodpecker, Chickdees, Nuthatches and purple Finch (pretty good for someone who does know much about birds)

Happy Mothers Day

Just a quick note to wish all the Mothers we know a wonderful day, especially my mommy and mommy in law - Happy Mothers day we love you!!!

I had a nice day, the kids each had a little gift for me they made at schol - cookies in a jar, and because the boys are in the same class I received two!! Everyone who knows me, knows I love cookie dough and for those of you who don't - I LOVE COOKIE DOUGH!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMM GOOD!

We had yummy trout and potato pancakes for breakfast and trout and salad for dinner, but I didn't cook either one, Ed cooked both.  He helped me get some peat moss for my garden and I planted some more veggies - it was a very nice day.  But the fun doesn't stop here - My birthday is tomorrow HEHHEHEEE
Mothers day and birthday in two days - how nice is that!!!

An Evening of Fishing!

Wow what an exciting evening!!!
We had dinner with our friends Jason and Beverly and their three girls and then headed out for an evening of fishing off the dock, on Canim Lake.
The lake was absolutely breathtaking, surrounded by mountains, a beautiful evening sky and rainbow trout biting at the fishing lines.
Tayler caught her first fish with the help of our friend Jason. Russ needed help from Dad, his fish put up a fight, but they landed it! Dylan caught two fish, he was so proud. He was also the last to finally bring his rod in, he was trying for a third. Persistance!
Such a wonderful end to a beautiful day!

And what did we have for breakfast this morning???? Rainbow trout, of course! MMMMMMM they were so yummy too.

Another Beautiful Sunset

Check out the sunset this evening. Is this not just absolutely gorgeous!
Off the back porch, you can see across the valley, which makes for front row seats to the sunset show!

Landing the playhouse

Leveled patch for the playhouse! Ed parked the crane truck right between the house and the cabin, and readied for take off.  Going up!! I was biting my nails the whole time, I was scared the old playhouse would decide it didn't like being hoisted 40 feet in the air, and would start falling apart piece by piece!
I took this photo from the side porch on the house, as you can see there is a beam above my head. Ed had inches to spare where the playhouse flew past the roof of the house!
New home. We have a bit of work to do to it, coat of paint, fix and mount swings and build a new ladder.  Aside from that, its in great condition and the kids LOVE IT!!!
