Beautiful Valentines Day

 Happy Valentines Day and what a beautiful day it has been, unfortunately 2 my Valentines are down at the coast, but the boys and I had a good day. Russ had a party with lots of sweets I went in to help and enjoyed some of those sweets too, not to mention all the hugs I got from the kids in the class - they are so cute. I took in some cookies for Dylans class but their day was normal no party so I only popped my head in the gym for a few minutes.
The sky is brillant blue and clear and the temperature is fairly warm, well +6 is fairly warm for February.  The huge dump of snow, and by that I mean a foot in 24 hours, we got on Wednesday and Thursday last week is melting FAST in this temperature, and I am catching all I can for the cistern downstairs!. And by huge, I mean a foot of snow over 24 hours.  CRAZY!!!

I was telling Ed the other day that last year I was staking out the garden on Valentines Day and making an effort to dig in it http://drtspringsreveiw.blogspot.com/2010/02/more-from-valentines-day.html this year however, I would have to get through 2 feet of snow before I hit dirt!

More snow

Today has been a snow day - other than checking the chickens we have stayed in all day - and now it is starting to show! Oh well bedtime is around the corner!

Anyway I've spent the day baking 4 loaves of bread a big batch of butterscotch cookies and two loaves of "Friendship Bread" I just hope it all lasts more than three days.  Our neighbours walked down for a cup of tea and a visit - we always have lots of laughs, they are alot of fun!

I took these pictures this afternoon when the snow was coming down the heaviest - it accumulated about 4-5 inches - I think I hear Ed out on the tractor plowing off the driveway for tomorrow morning.

If only they could talk - tracks in the snow.  Moose, Coyotes, hare, deer...

I think these are coyote tracks - they looked similair to dog foot prints but the prints we not deeper than a few centimetres in the snow.

The tracks of all different animals that pass through our place criss cross everywhere, through the trees across the fields and up the driveway. The other day we came upon a moose and calf crossing the driveway into the neighbouring field.  We also watched one as it came trotting across an open hay field - waht an amazing sight - the kids were really excited!

As weird as it sounds I enjoy venturing out to get firewood.  Its an excuse to get out and go for a walk, watch the kids explore and have fun, whether its sliding around behind the tractor and trailer or playing in stand of trees.  This past weekend we went out both days and filled the trailer - so we are good for quite a while now - well probably 2 weeks or so.

If you look really hard there is a minus sign in front of the 27.5 - that was the temperature Monday morning! EKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK so glad we went and chopped lots of firewood the two days before!

Ed told me the temperature at about 7am as I lay in bed all cozy and snuggled, it was at that point I decided the "KELSEY" school bus would not be running and the boys got a stolen day from school!

REALLY, CAN YOU BLAME ME!
