More excitement at DRT Springs!

Last Tuesday I was in the kitchen talking to Aunt Kathy and could hear noises getting closer and closer, I ran out to see what it was and looking what was coming down our driveway! A day early! When I saw him he was making the last turn into the yard. Uncle Brian went and got Ed and told the guy he was a day early - you should have seen the horror on his face - I said don't worry we can still unload the truck it will just take some time to set up.  So he and Ed got the truck and trailer turned around and Ed set up the crane and got to work. 

He made a couple attempts at controlling the crane from the ground then decided it would be way faster to get up on the truck and control from the top.

Took about 2 hours to unload. The driver was very impressed with how Ed handled the crane and how it unloaded, he said he had never seen it done that way.

Now the clean up begins we have logs all over the front yard!

Lots of visitors

Just thought I would let everyone know where we are and how we are.  We are doing good getting ready for the winter, getting firewood and cleaning up jobs that need to be finished before the snow falls.

In mid September Mom and Dad came up with their trailer and stayed with us for 5 days then headed up to their favorite campground at Lac La Hache.  We had a great visit and Uncle Pete was up at Greeny Lake too. Ed Dad and Uncle Pete went out hunting for grouse but came back with only one. That day the kids and I went to a worm farm harvest - dig for worms right up the kids alley. Tay even got her picture in the paper.

She had the Mad Hatters tea - came with Hot chocolate in a tea pot - too cute - she kept saying that lady is so nice, look what she gave me!

We also went up to Lac a Hache for dinner at Mom and Dads trailer the kids scoured the lake shore for shells and pretty rocks for ages while Mom and I walked and chatted behind them.

A week after Mom and Dad were here, Greg and Amy arrived with their son, Grant. Greg is Eds cousin they live up in Prince Rupert, Greg flys seaplanes in and out remote areas.  This is the first time in three years we have seen them. We had lots of laughs and fun. Grant rearranged most of my lower cupboards, it was hilarious to watch even our kids got into the act, stacking them up and arranging them in all different ways.  Greg and Ed did a little hunting on the property and Greg got a deer after being out for 10 minutes he was beaming! They headed out everyday looking for birds, deer or bear thank goodness all they got was a few birds after the deer, we have no more space in the freezer. Amy and I had a great time together chatting, making bread and cookies, and looking after kids. They stayed for 4 days and headed out for the rest of their trip throught the province but we have made plans for a spring visit to Rupert - looking forward to it!

The day Greg and Amy left Marg and Ted arrived. Unfortunately they didn't get to hook up for a visit but we tried! Marg and Ted stayed for a week and helped out with the odd jobs that we are trying to get done - we now have a good handle on them and they are well on the way to being finished. We were all invited for Thankgiving at a neighbours and we all had a great time - always a riot! Marg spent most of her time at the sink trying desparately to get all the dishes done - I believe Amy tried the same thing. Unfortunately I was always up to making more stuf and creating more dishes - I think Marg was looking forward to the break from dishes.

Today Brian and Kathy are arriving (Gregs Mom and Dad) we are not sure of their plans so we will see what is happening when they arrive.

So over and above our crazy life we have been so busy having fun with family and friends! Unfortunately through all of this, I took VERY few pictures - how silly of me!

Dog or chicken??????????????????

My poor dog is having an identity crisis.

Shayleigh has loved the chickens from the first moment we got them. She would try get on the table to see them and she would cry if no one helped her.

When we moved them to the basement, she was the first one down the stairs to go in and feed them. She would stand up against the pen to see what was going on.

Then when they went outside, Shay would sit by the outdoor pen and watch them, sometimes getting so excited she would paw at the fence.

And now, yes she eats with them, and from time to time tries to play with them by pawing at the both hens and roosters.  The chickens are pretty comfortable around her and sometimes try to show her who is boss, by pecking her nose or running at her.

My poor confused bird dog. Her breed is for hunting down game and retrieving, not to be eating with them. Oh well, I guess its better than her chasing them day in and day out.

Dylan was pretending to drive our little truck - he had his Nerf gun too, so I think he was pretending to go hunting.

Hunting Season!

Yes Hunting season is here.

Ed has been out several mornings a week looking for the prize deer or grouse. Last Friday he got one, he was so excited.

Wow what took so long

Fall is here and so is the craziness school and all the other busy routines.

The kids are back in school and getting adjusted again. Dylan has moved to the intermediate class now with a new teacher and atmosphere, but he is doing well. Russ is happy to be in the same class as last year and same teacher. And Tayler of course can't get enough school and loves to go.

The colours of Fall all absolutely breathtaking - the hillsides are a patchwork of greens, yellows, oranges and some reds. The temperature is falling too, most mornign are frosty, but by early afternoon we are back in T-shirts.

Surprise of all surprises - we had snow on September 20 - how crazy is that! Mom and Dad were staying with us in their trailer. So I went and knocked on the window and said look outside - What the Heck ? was I I got from Dad - too funny - welcome to the Cariboo - where you wait five minutes and the weather changes!
