I bet you are wondering why the hood of my car is up in the last post well let me tell you about my adventures last weekend.
It started out with Bronchitis, yes I was sick all weekend and part of the week before - to the point I took a couple days off work (I was not feeling great at all). I woke up Saturday morning pretty early as I went to bed pretty early the night before and found Spice munching away on chicken food - naughty horse! How you say did she get into the chicken food? - well I thought I would be a great horse mom and leave her out for the night so she was not in her yucky muddy corral and she could graze and sleep in the front yard where it was much drier. Well she knows that the chicken pellets are kept in the bin outside the chicken coop (with the screw top lid that was sealed) she must have pawed at the lid a few times with her front hooves because the lid was busted off and there was chicken food everywhere. She spent most of the next day up and down - I think she had a tummy ache - Ed said "No she doesn't, she trying to lay an egg!"
Later on in the afternoon I was outside brushing her and hanging out because I didn't have much energy and friends came over (through the gate at the driveway) I talked to them for a few minutes but kept my distance as one guy was on vacation from Ontario and REALLY didn't want to get sick! They went off to find Ed and talk to him, and I went in to fix a cup of tea. After a bit they were all still talking away and I went to go brush Spice again. After a quick look she had disappeared and then I noticed the open gate - I have a sneaky horse who is very quiet about great escapes - Upon noticing the open gate I'm sure she looked over her shoulder and very quietly walked through the gate and triumphantly raised head thinking - "I'm Free and no one even noticed!" So I ran back into the house grabbed her halter and lead rope and took off on the 4 wheeler to go find her (she may be sneaky but she is also very predictable) I found her down the road pacing along the fence calling the boys who were stuck behind a gate and couldn't get close to her - Whew! On the went the halter and we headed home! Our friends felt awful - So sorry, we thought we would be just a few minutes! No worries I said See the smile on her face!
Now for the kicker of the weekend not so funny at the time but hilarious to think back on!
Ed was walking over to get the car and move it to change the oil, he yelled over at me "Did you see the ground hog under the car?", "No" I said. "Oh it was really big, oh well must have run into the bush!" So he brought he car over to the little hump he uses to get the car up and opened the hood to see beady little eyes and HUGE teeth staring at him! - "Holy Shit" he yelled. Well the ground hog had NOT run into the bush he had run UP into the engine compartment of my car - JUST GREAT! now try get him out - for starters did I mention the BIG teeth! We poked at him a few times and now he is whistling or peeping whatever it called! But noisy! So Ed decided to take him for a drive maybe we could bounce him out. After a 20 minute ride he was still in there PEEPING! Well to make a long story short Ed changed the oil, we left the hood open with a live trap beside the car and hoped for the best. The next morning he was still there and I had to take the car to school so of I went with Dermot the varmit in the car too! He was pretty quiet during the ride but when we got home I thought I would raise the hood and give him more escape routes - as I opened the hood there he was again big beady eyes and HUGE teeth - staring at me - I Screamed! He PEEPED!!! We noticed him again Tuesday morning before I had to leave for work, once again running up under my car. Well off to work I went and we never heard from him again - not sure where decided to get off but he's no longer around!
That was our crazy weekend! or should I say my crazy weekend.
