Happy Anniversary to Us!!!!

Hard to believe that 10 years ago today Ed and I were married.

Wow how time flys! We have been crazy busy for the last few weeks. I have been working lots! and Ed is always busy sawing or trucking and the newest one looking after the kids (while I'm at work)
Dylan is in his last few weeks of Kindergarten then its on to the big grade 1. That will be weird - full days at school. Russ will start preschool in September too - Monday Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Marg and Ted came to visit us this week, Marg and I walked up to pick up Dylan from School, he was very excited to see her. We had a chat over tea with Ed and Ted and they were off to catch a ferry. Dylan and Russ always get excited about going to Grandma and Grandpa Kelseys because of the ferry ride - not to mention the beach and the forest trail and the park and sometimes a sleep over.
Last week was a very happy one as Eds brother and my best friend are back from England for 4 months!! It is great to have them back, they had been overseas for 8 months working.
Tayler is walking almost all the time now. When shes in a hurry she will crawl but when she has the time she walks. She carries a huge grin while she is walking and giggles away - she is sooooooo proud of herself. She is also teething right now and for the past few days - sleep has been little! She is getting two or three molars! OUCH! I hope it ends soon. The bags under my eyes are getting BIGGER and BIGGER.

Last night we took the kids to the park for a play and burn off they excess energy that they get right before bed time - why is that???

Goldstream Park

Today we spent most of the day at home - I was in cleaning mode, this doesn't happen very so I take advantage of it. Ed was busy puttering around washing my car, watering the shrubs in the front yard and the lawn too. The boys were busy making MUD and trucking it up and down the hand made hills. we went for a walk in Goldstream Park this afternoon, it was really nice as there was hardly anyone there. we wondered up the stream then through the tunnel to the waterfall and down to the nature house ( it was closed but we sat and had a snack and watched the hummingbirds) Then we drove home via Finlayson Arm Rd - lots of twists and turns and VERY narrow - haven't been up there for ages, Ed was telling me had to drive the tri-axle crane truck up there a few times - wouldn't have wanted to me him then.

The longer evenings have the kids so screwed up about bed time - they can never believe its time to get ready when its still so light out. This evening they decided they were going to make cement - had to investigate that one as Ed was setting posts in cement the day before.

Tayler is pretty much walking. Only when shes in a hurry she chooses to crawl. She is very stiff legged and wobbly but she getting the hang of it. The boys get so excited when she ventures out - she giggles and squweals her way along.

The last week was pretty much a blur other than working Monday and Thrusday and Dylan went to a birthday party friday night. The weather has been beautiful and is getting very warm during mid day.

Cabin Clarification

I have been asked a couple of times now if the cabin in the last post is ours. No, I just thought it would be a pretty picture. For me it sums up the Caribou region - The rolls fields, with hills in the background and the odd abandoned cabin such as this one.

Here is a picture of our cabin much newer and more comfortable. Its 160 square feet on the bottom floor (10 feet x 16 feet) with a 10 x 10 loft for sleeping and clothing.

Yes its barn style, this allows us to put our pants on without having to lay down and shimmy into them - we can stand! We have a campstove by the door on a long table, a woodstove for warmth and cooking (on the top) and corner cabinet for food and dishes. And last but not least a toilet (no outhouse whew!) similar to a port-a-potty.

Our trip to 100 Mile

We are back to the everyday once again. We had a great trip to the cabin. Its so nice to go and hav a change on scenery. The lifestyle is so laid back, makesit even more relaxing. The cabin is at a point now, we are warm, dry and fairly comfortable with only a few creature comforts missing (a shower and thick mattress to sleep on) The first full day we spent exploring and found a beautiful secluded little meadow on the edge of Bridge creek. From here we wondered towards the west side of the property and up a billy goat trail(deer trail) to the "top " field and back to the cabin for a snack and a rest. Throughout our trip we did alot of cleanup. The property was logged in teh 70s so there is alot of dead trees and branches lying around, so some of the fires we had were pretty spectacular compared to the average burn barrel. We did alot of cooking over the fire thats always fun - one time I found Cody helping himself to our dinner. The boys love roasting smarshmallows(as dylan calls them) its the most exciting part of the day. On May 19 we went into 100 Mile for the pancake breaky, Rodeo parade and streetfest. This was loads of fun. There was the zanniest marching band in the parade.They were all dressed in silly costumes, chasing each other around, it was hilarious. On the way back to the cabin we met some neighbours from down the street (or in our case - dirt road) Everyone we have met so far has been very nice and friendly.
Over the weekend we had a thunderdstorm during the day thats always exciting. Thank goodness it wasn't at night as Dylan was very nervous. He comes by it honestly as I have never really liked them either.Ed , however, quite enjoys them - thats the Ontario native coming out in him:-)
On Monday we met some relatives on Eds side and had a great visit. Turns out she is a cousin to Eds mom. What a small world!
On the way home we decided it would be fun to take the Duffy Lake road. Well it was fun and absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. But the road itself could use some work - Poor Russ was car sick from all the twists and turns and bumps. Its amazing how quick Ed can stop when the threat of vomit in his favorite truck is possibly seconds away. We were home Tuesday night and had a great nights sleep in our own beds.
Getting back into the swing of things is never easy but Ed has hit the grindstone hard, and Dylans friends were very happy to see him back.

Parties and other things

We have been very busy over the last few weeks. We have made countless (or at least it seems that way) cookies for a surprise party for my Grandmas 80th birthday. I don't think I can look at another cookie recipe for a while. As for the party, it was a huge success!! My mom and aunt did most of the planning and organizing, but we (the boys and I ) were in charge of making the variety of cookies (they were in heaven - mom was making cookies every couple of days!!!) When we counted how many people were confirmed coming it was over 140 !!! Can you imagine all these people came to see my grandma for her birthday - It was a wonderful feeling, so many people from all parts of her life were there to celebrate with her. The party was held in Brentwood where she has lived most of her life (right from childhood) Unfortunately I didn't take alot of pictures during the party but here are a few of the clean up - as you can tell all three of them were having fun helping to clean up.

Today was my volunteer day at Dylans kindergarten - I love doing this, its so neat to see what they are doing in the class, and to keep tabs on the kids - whos whos so to speak. Anyway today they were having an assembly for the community quilts each class designed - I sewed the kindergarten blocks together so it was neat to see how proud the kids were of their quilts. Also in the assembly was a recognition for reading at home - Dylan was called up and recognized and then called again because he won a book draw - he was so cute standing in front of the school with his hands in his pockets - as if to say GET ME OUTTA HERE!!! But he got a new book which we read before bed tonight. I was a proud mommy today well - everyday I'm a proud mommy but today I got to see my little guy recognized in front of the school!

Russell and I have been doing some renovating - yes I said Russell. We have torn out a BIG cabinet and Ed is replacing it with a much smaller and more practical one. If you had been in our house before, just inside the front door was a gigantic counter that only served to collect ALOT of junk. After many months of talking about taking the cabinet out, I decided to take it upon myself to finally act on this and Russ helped. Now we have a much bigger kitchen and a regular sized doorway into the bedrooms.

Well time to go, we are counting down the days, till we head north to the cabin and also to Puntzie Lake, camping. We will be leaving on May 14 and back on the May 23. Take care, Love Kelly and the gang

Its MAY!!!

Hello

Its May and its raining and hailing and windy and sunny - all at the same time - go figure- teehee

The weather man never had a chance at todays weather, we had it all. At one piont the boys were out playing in the yard and the hail started. They were laughing and turned their palms out to try catch some icy rain (as Dylan calls it) Russ was standing in the yard and it was bouncing off his head - we had to laugh.

We have started enrolling Russ in preschool - he is very excited to have his own school - just like Dylan and can't wait to start. We went to the drop in last week and he couldn't figure out why I wouldn't leave him there and come back later when school was over. With Dylan "I" went to preschool for 3 months before he was comfortable with me leaving - somehow I don't think Russ will have the same problem.

Dylan has been learning about castles and dragons in school over the past few weeks. Today when we arrived he said - hey do you see my class room its the one with the pink turrets. They have dragons, princesses, knights - so far he has been protecting the castle from the dragons and he has to wear a helmet and chest plate - too cute. I get to volunteer this coming Tuesday, I can't wait to see everything they are doing.

We visited my brothers house the other evening and the kids had a great time in the backyard till dark. They were driving madly around the yard in the battery powered jeep, squealing and laughing. Tayler loved sliding down the slide - when I put her at the top I hardly had time to get ready to catch her and she was coming down at break neck speed with a huge smile on her face.
